Event Description
Topic
Mortgage fraud continues to occur with surprising frequency in Alberta. The system has checks and balances in place to prevent fraud, and requires the participation of mortgage brokers, realtors, appraisers, lawyers, and lenders, all of whom must fulfil their jobs with diligence and vigilance to prevent exploitation by dishonest purchasers and vendors. Nearly every example of mortgage fraud involves a failure on the part of one of the professionals involved to effectively, or in some cases, to honestly, perform their function. This presentation will describe some of the fraudulent schemes employed to defeat the system, and how they can be prevented and detected.
Speaker Bio
